Our Story
Stainmaster® was founded in 1986 as a partnership between DuPont and Invista to create superior carpet fiber technology. Their goal was simple – to develop carpet that could resist stains, wear and matting. Pro Tips
Prepping Your Floors
The state of your subfloor plays a critical role in the success of your flooring installation. Follow these tips to prep your floors:
- For concrete subfloors, check for cracks, uneven surfaces and moisture. Use leveling compound or sealers to correct any issues.
- Wood or plywood subfloors should be flattened if uneven. Inspect for squeaks or gaps and re-screw loose areas.
- Remove all existing floor coverings including tile, vinyl, glue or staples before installation.
- Clean floors thoroughly to remove all dirt, wax, oil, grease and soap residue.
Installation
Proper flooring installation is key to ensuring your floors look beautiful while providing long lasting performance:
- Hire a professional for best results. Experienced installers have the skills to handle challenging project areas.
- Follow all manufacturer guidelines for subfloor prep, installation methods and recommended adhesives. Using incorrect materials can void warranties.
- Allow floors time to acclimate to your home’s temperature and humidity before installation – usually 24 – 48 hours.
- Establish your starting point and direction of flooring carefully. Measure the entire space and calculate how flooring runs will fit to minimize narrow border cuts along the walls.
- Use spacers during installation to maintain proper expansion space between flooring pieces and walls. Failure to allow room for contraction and expansion could cause floor damage.
- Roll and cross roll all floors with a 75-100 lb roller after installation to firmly adhere flooring to the subfloor.
Taking the time to properly install floors ensures they get off to the best looking and performing start.
Caring For Your Floors
Keep your floors looking like new and performing their best by following manufacturer recommendations:
All Floors:
- Sweep, dust mop or vacuum floors regularly to prevent dirt and grit buildup that can abrade surfaces.
- Wipe up spills immediately to prevent staining or damage.
- Use proper flooring cleaners, not harsh chemicals or steam cleaners that could degrade floors.
- Place walk off mats at entrances and area rugs in high traffic areas to minimize wear.
- Use furniture leg protectors and office chair mats to distribute weight and reduce scratches and dents.
- Maintain relative humidity between 35-55% to minimize expansion and contraction of flooring.
Carpet:
- Vacuum high traffic areas daily and entire carpet 1-2 times per week. Change vacuums bags often.
- Professionally deep clean carpets every 12-18 months to revitalize carpet fibers.
- Trim snagged fibers to prevent pulls or runs. Do not pull them out.
